Take down the decorations. Did anything break this
year? Can it be fixed? Or is it better to toss it out and replaced it?
Pack the decorations
into their storage boxes. It is always a good idea to use clear plastic bins so it is easy to see what
is held in the box. If you don’t have clear storage, label the boxes with a list of the contents.
Before
you pack Christmas tree lights away, replace any burned out bulbs. Check the electrical cording for any
signs of wear. If they show any fraying, toss out the entire string. Use light string
storage wrap devices and/or reels available at many specialty and discount stores or on-line. Buy spare
light bulbs on sale for next season.
Go through
your Christmas card envelopes as you receive them. Note in your address book any changes in addresses,
phone numbers or family members for the people on your list. You’ll be prepared for next year’s
mailing.
If you scrapbook, save the face of any cards that have
decorations you want to use. Use a stacking drawer or binder with plastic sheet protectors for easy storage
and scanning. Recycle the rest.
Start
your 2009 Holiday Planner.
You may
have had a chance to try new recipes at the various gatherings you attended. Make certain
to get the recipe from the host(ess) and put in your 2009 Holiday Planner.
Hang
up or fold the new clothes. Make room for the new items by donating gently used, poor fitting or
out-of-style clothing.
For decorative
gifts, store out-of-season items to be brought out at the right time of year.
